22 May a film festival “Side by Side” organized with the support of the RSDUY was concluded in Novosibirsk. On Sunday May 22 at the closing of the festival a film “Power of powerless” was shown, the same film was shown at the film festival “32nd of May” in Saint-Petersburg in December 2010. The closing ceremony took place at the jazz club “Truba”. The film “Power of powerless” tells us about the consequences of the “deleting of history”. It’s about the changes that took place during the twenty years that followed the collapse of communism in Czechoslovakia, about those who fought against the communist regime, about the mute majority supporting the regime, about why today so many Czechs do not want to recall their communist past. The film uses interviews with dissidents in particular with the former president of the Czech Republic Václav Havel. The film acquaints us with the history of the Velvet Revolution of 1989 and sets a question: why modern youth is not being taught their own history. “Everyone set to the end, even though there was a feeling it was a bit overextended. The reception of the audience was positive and the following discussion was active, – says member of the Board of the RSDUY Vladimir Kostin. – Participants noted the importance of the personalities in those events, like the ones shown in the film, and pointed out that Czechs were lucky to have them. The ideas presented in the film in general received the support of the audience”.
