RSDUY got full membership status of IUSY

In the course of the world IUSY congress (The international union of socialist youth) taking place in the capital of Paraguay, the positive decision of granting to the Russian social democratic union of youth a full membership status of this organization was made on Saturday. It is for the first time in the contemporary Russian history when the organization or party gets such a status of the Socialist International structures (IUSY mainly consists of youth wings of party-members of the Socialist International). Since 2003 and till this very moment RSDUY had enjoyed an observer status. None of Russian parties has got status higher than observer in the Socialist International in the contemporary national history.

Susanne Kasztanowitz, vice-chairman of JUSOS – our partnership organization in Germany – informed us about the decision taken. “We just voted for the full membership of RSDUY. Welcome to the family of IUSY” – she wrote on her Facebook page. More detailed information has not come yet.

It is not just success of the organization, but it also the major impulse for the organization development, thus it is considered by the leader of RSDUY Evgeny Konovalov. “It won’t only affect our further development, it will affect all social democratic and left movement in Russia. RSDUY now gets the opportunity to directly influence on discussions and decision-making about the most important problems of the international community. Therefore, the full membership status of IUSY means not only other horizons for development of RSDUY, but also a new page in the history of our country, in its formation of democratic social development» – Konovalov said.

XXIX World IUSY congress took place in Paraguay on April 20-22. Besides the voting of the change of status in membership of the Union, World Political Manifest was discussed in the program. “The global economical crisis continues to hit the most vulnerable in our societies. – The neoliberal economical system has crashed and failed. It is now time for a global democratic economy that works for people and promotes social justice”.
